Dads are special

Posted in

As the world celebrates “Fathers Day” on June 21st 2009, I thought why not take the opportunity to make all the “Dads” feel special. Remember some of the wonderful Dads. Fatherhood is a sweet experience along with the responsibilities and commitments. Most of the information is collected from different sources listed .
Pandit Jawahar lal Nehru and Indira Gandhi- We all know about the famous and much loved “LETTERS FROM A FATHER TO HIS DAUGHTER” - Nehru - late Prime Minister of India - to his beloved young daughter, Indira Gandhi, who also went on to become Prime Minister of India . Quote-"Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru tirelessly strove to attain a state "where mind is without fear and the head is held high… into that heaven of freedom…" He wanted his people to learn from their historic past but to remain conscious of their obligations to the future. Through his famous letters to his beloved young daughter, Indira Gandhi, he helped her and posterity to imbibe his scientific temper. "The Last Letter", as Jawaharlal Nehru preferred to call it, which he wrote from Dehra Dun prison in, 1933, to Indira Gandhi, gives us a glimpse into the thought process of a father, as also its likely impact on the daughter, both of whom went on to shape the destiny of India's teeming millions!( webspawner.com)
Imran Mirza and Sanya Mirza- Sanya Mirza was born in Mumbai to a devout Muslim family. Her father Imran Mirza a sports journalist, trained her initially along with her other family members .She started playing tennis at the early age of six and finally playing professionally by 2003.
Mohammad Ali and laila Ali- Laila says-My dad is my dad. I love him, and I realize that he’s as famous as he is. Of course, I don’t look at him like everybody else does. Because I know his little faults, I know his weaknesses. Nobody’s perfect. But he’s my dad. Just like your dad is to you.( hossli.com).
Marie Skłodowska Curie (Madam Curie/Manya) –A physicist ,chemist and a pioneer in the field of radioactivity .She was also the first person honored with two nobel prizes and the first female professor at the University of Paris .Manya ‘s father "Władysław Skłodowski" taught mathematics and physics subjects that she was to pursue. Her parents and grandfather were teachers who taught their children the value to learning from young age.
Albert Einstein – Einsteins father Hermann Einstein who was a salesman and engineer ,founded a company with his brother at Munich that manufactured electrical equipment based on Direct current.”One day when Einstein was five, his father showed him a pocket compass. Einstein realized that there must be something in the space, previously thought to be empty, that was moving the needle and later stated that this experience made "a deep and lasting impression"(wikipedia)”
I googled more and discovered that not only humans, but also a few particular species of animals who are good Daddies.
Penguins –I know that now you can recall the movie “Happy Feet”..well! you are absolutely right. In the cold Antarctic climate when Mommy Penguin is away for feed Daddy Penguin takes the “Incubation duty” for the young one.
In his book -The Evolution of Fatherhood: A Celebration of Animal and Human Families by Jeffrey Moussaieff Masson, Masson examines the extraordinary behavior of outstanding fathers, the male emperor penguin, who incubating the egg of young ones, prairie dog dads, teaching their pups to play; the South American tamarin monkey, who coaches his mate through labor and delivery and also the wolf--who make very make good fathers. Its a wonderful book to read. “Sea Horses” too are excellent Daddies –The male seahorse is equipped with a brood pouch on the ventral, or front-facing, side. When mating, the female seahorse deposits the eggs in the male's pouch, which the male then internally fertilizes. The male carries the eggs until they emerge, expelling fully-developed, miniature seahorses in the water.
Dads are are role models and best friends..Well expressed in these phrases.. "Dad, you’re like the sun to me, a sure thing, always there, beaming light and warmth on my life. Whatever is good in me today, I owe to your wisdom, your patience, your strength, your love. You taught me by example, as a role model, how to be my own person, how to believe in myself, instructing me without controlling me. Even when we disagreed, you held us together, so our bond was never broken. I understand what you did for me, and I am so grateful that I have you as my solid foundation, my rock. I respect you, I admire you, I love you, my guiding light, my father". By Joanna Fuchs
