Durga Durgati Naashini...

Posted in

Durga Puja is celebrated every year in the month of Ashwin according to the Hindu calendar. This falls around September and October. This signifies Rama's worship of the goddess before going to war with the king of the Rakshasas, Ravana. This autumnal ritual was different from the conventional Durga Puja, which was celebrated in the springtime. So, this Puja is also known as 'Akal-Bodhan' or out-of-season ('Akal') worship ('Bodhan').

The first large scale puja of Durga in recorded history is said to have been held in the late 1500s by the zamindars or landlords of Dinajpur and Malda in Bengal.

Seductive Passion ‘N Scandalous Murder!

It is said that the greatest part of a writer’s time is spent in reading. In order to  write, a man/woman will turn over half a library of life to make one book. Writing is like living your life again, penning stories rooting from personal experiences to them  blossoming into great reads of fiction, romance and thrillers.

A Fleeting Memory

Posted in

When I was a little girl, living in the same house with aunts, uncles, cousins and grandparents, life followed a different rhythm. During the hot summer nights we used to lay down beside Thakuma, and listen to her singsong voice telling us a story of some Raja and Rani. Often there was no power, and Thakuma used to fan us with her hand-fan made of palm tree leaf.

A case for dropping silent letters from the English Language

Posted in

We know about silent letters in the English language. Silent letters have been there in certain words for centuries and if we do not act quickly will continue to remain likewise. Why are they there? I do think that the silent letters are there because no one bothered to take them off!

They must dance all night

Posted in

With the first light of dawn
A thousand crystals sparkle,
On every blade of grass and emerald spear,
As flowers curl up into buds and sleep in leafy beds.
I feel they must dance all night in a whirl of colour
Under brittle star glittered skies blue with cold.
Dazzling beetle iridescence and pale cicada robes
Are all that remain from the revelry of the night before.

parental traps

Tiny tots step out
To share the glee
Of friendship in games
Till parental traps
Make them coil
And color their sights
With different shades.
